Nicht Bei Uns

Questionable messages, discriminatory behavior, and viral dances in full uniform: A provocative look at the shadows lurking within the police force."

The Police Baden-Württemberg commissioned us to address the issues of discrimination, racism, extremism, and inappropriate conduct in uniform on social media as part of their internal campaign "NICHT BEI UNS!" (NOT ON OUR WATCH!). The goal of this initiative is to define clear boundaries, heighten sensitivity within the organization, and foster an open dialogue regarding problematic behavior. The campaign employs a combination of preventive communication, internal training, and deliberately provocative media examples designed to trigger critical reflection.

The audiovisual execution utilizes a documentary-style narrative to establish a direct connection to the daily lives of employees. At the same time, it addresses the risks of digital self-promotion in uniform and the consequences of discriminatory remarks within both a professional and social context. A particular focus is placed on the responsibility that comes with using social media in both official and private capacities.

In the course of public communication regarding the campaign, it emerged that internal incidents occurred during the production and approval phases, leading to significant organizational and personnel consequences. In the public eye, these developments were frequently linked to the broader discussion about misconduct within the institution. (Notably, the Inspector of the Police Baden-Württemberg, with whom the campaign against sexism and other issues was coordinated over several weeks in 2021, was suspended for sexual harassment in the workplace shortly after filming was completed.)

Ultimately, "NICHT BEI UNS!" underscores the vital importance of clear internal guidelines, consistent accountability, and a continuous confrontation with problematic structures to ensure long-term integrity, respect, and the rule of law within the police force.
